About

What does it mean to feel "found"?

Understood. Safe. Worthy. Hopeful. ______________________________ If you've continued scrolling, you're at the right place. I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who specializes in working with young adults, individuals having prolonged or especially intense grief reactions, and new mothers struggling with the transition into parenthood. ______________________________ I have worked with young adults (college-age to late 20s) throughout the duration of my career and very much enjoy helping navigate both common and unique challenges this phase of life can offer. The young adults I work with are typically working through issues with anxiety, relationships, or some sort of life transition. So much of our personal growth happens during this time and I have experienced time and time again the value of having a supportive professional by your side throughout it. ______________________________ Typically when we think of loss, we only think of death. In reality, we experience a variety of losses throughout our life--loss of a relationship, loss of a job, losses related to developing an illness...the list goes on. It is normal to have an emotional response to these events, to experience grief. Complicated grief, however, can be chronic, confusing, and especially debilitating. You may be experiencing complicated grief if: -The circumstances surrounding your loss were especially painful or unusual. -You felt "blindsided" by the loss and received little to no closure (i.e. in the case of death, it was sudden or unexpected or in a relationship, someone "ghosted" you). -You notice that your emotions are much different than others who have experienced the same loss; perhaps you feel ashamed for feeling this way. -Your relationship with the lost person was tumultuous, abusive, or otherwise unhealthy. -A significant amount of time has passed and you are still experiencing the same intensity of emotion as when it first happened. -You've experienced several significant losses in your life. -You intentionally avoid any reminders of the loss. ______________________________ As for you new mothers experiencing feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, sadness, anger, confusion, or maybe a little bit of all that and then some, it would be my pleasure to help get you through this time of your life. It is a time that is undoubtedly challenging but also one that can be the most beautifully transformative experience of your life with the right resources and supports in place. I am a mother of two young children myself, making me especially relatable to these clients. ______________________________ I take an in-depth, individualized approach to counseling and very much value the therapeutic relationship we will build. We will explore not only the ways in which you are currently struggling but how you have struggled in the past and factors both within and outside of yourself that may be contributing to your distress, all while providing you with strategies and tools to make things feel much more bearable. In a session with me, you can expect genuineness, high energy, compassion, transparency, and maybe even a laugh (yes, therapy is serious stuff but that doesn't mean it has to be boring!). I also have a strong commitment to my own self care. In other words, I practice what I preach! My professional experience has been varied, from working in a college counseling center to a domestic violence agency as well as in assisted living and memory care facilities. In doing so, I have not only honed my clinical skills but I've also gained an enhanced perspective about the value of having a professional stand by you with warmth and without judgment when at your most vulnerable. In recent years, I have transitioned to working with individuals in a private practice setting. A note about Telehealth: I have found that establishing the therapeutic connection I so value is just as possible virtually as it is in person (despite my initial resistance to the idea). I have also had clients very much enjoy the convenience of engaging in counseling from the comfort of their own home. As long as you are in the state of Ohio, we are able to meet using a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Not sure if virtual counseling is right for you or if we would be a good fit? Feel free to reach out using the "Contact Me" link at the top of this page to schedule a free 15 minute video or phone consultation.
